04/27/00 02:12:28 PM U.S. EDT

Shipments by General Aviation Manufacturers Association member companies in the first quarter of this year set a billing record at $2.1 billion for 613 planes, 22.1% more planes than in the same period last year. They delivered 399 piston-powered planes, 78 turboprops and 136 jets; 141 planes were exported.

The billings were 12.3% higher, piston-engine shipments were up 20.9% (Cessna Skylane shown), turboprops up 44.4% and jets up 15.3%. Exports rose 28.2%, but export billings were 30.0% below the same period last year.

GAMA President Ed Bolen said “The momentum generated by first quarter shipments and billings promises to make 2000 another record year for every aspect of general aviation.” The association, based in Washington, D.C., represents 50 makers of general aviation planes, engines and avionics.
